The fields of Information and Communication technologies have seen an explosive growth in the last few years. It has become imperative for us in a knowledge-based economy to remain abreast of the latest developments in Computer Science. The CS undergraduate program is designed not only to meet the demands of local IT industry, but also to train students to withstand academic rigor and take up advanced studies in future. Coupled with the flexibility to study in diverse minor areas, the program prepares technically sound and well-rounded individuals who can meet the challenges of the future. The B.Sc. Computer Science program at LUMS offers a wide range of coursework that is consolidated with hands on software development experience. There is a possibility to combine a major in Computer Science with other offerings to give breadth to this technical degree. The students in their senior year can also take advanced courses offered to MS and Ph.D students. Thus there is the possibility to delve deep into a chosen subject area and prepare oneself for higher studies.

Computer Engineering is a rapidly emerging discipline that deals with the creative application of engineering principles and methods to the design and development of hardware and software systems. It differs from Computer Science in that the emphasis is on design and development of computing systems and operating platforms. The undergraduate students in Computer Engineering can undertake exciting careers in Embedded Systems, Multimedia processing, Communications, Networking, VLSI Chip Design and Robotics. There is a greater emphasis in this degree to blend strong mathematical and analytical skills with applications to produce relevant and state-of-the-art solutions for high-tech industry. The program seeks to fulfill a dearth of academically sound computer engineers that has so far restricted the growth of local IT industry to services sector only.
The BSc Computer Engineering program will be discontinued from Fall 2008 and instead BSc Electrical Engineering will be offered by the School of Science and Engineering.
